How to play Percentage Strips

  1. Tap a percentage strip: 50%, 40%, 30%, 25%, 20%, 12.5% or 10%.
  2. Tap a row to drop it in. Each row shows its total as you build.
  3. Switch to two wholes across, so a row can go past 100%.
  4. Press Challenge to get a target, such as 75% or 45%, and build a row that reaches it.

For parents and teachers

Building 100% out of quarters, halves and tenths shows that percentages are fractions of a hundred: 25% is a quarter, 50% is a half. This helps later with discounts, marks and the percentage questions in Classes 6 to 8. Ask a child to make the same percentage two different ways, and to say which fraction each strip is.
