How to play Matching Pairs

  1. Press the big yellow Play button. Cards are dealt face down.
  2. Tap a card to turn it over, then tap another.
  3. Two cards with the same picture are a pair: they stay up and you get a star.
  4. Two different cards turn back over. Remember where they were and try again.
  5. Find every pair to clear the table and get more cards.

For parents and teachers

A pair is two of the same thing, and finding pairs is the start of counting in twos. The game also asks your child to remember where a picture was, which small children are often very good at. Talk about the pictures as they turn over and count the pairs together at the end. Four cards to begin with, then six and eight as the tables are cleared.
