How to play Math Flash Cards

  1. Read the problem on the flash card. It is an addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
  2. Pick the right answer from the five tiles below the card.
  3. A right answer fills in the card and adds to the score. A wrong answer shows what you chose, and the next card comes up.
  4. Keep going for as long as you like; the score keeps counting until the page is closed.

For parents and teachers

Flash cards build fast recall of the basic number facts: the sums, differences, times tables and divisions a child should know without counting. Because every subtraction stays at zero or above and every division comes out exactly, the game never asks for long working; it asks whether the fact is known. Five minutes a day, a few times a week, does more than one long session. If a child keeps missing the same kind of question, practise that table or that set of facts on paper, then come back to the game.
