How to play Bar Graph Builder
- Choose a level, then press Start game.
- On the building levels, read the tally and tap in each column to set its bar to the right height. The arrow keys work too.
- Press Check. A wrong bar is named, so you can fix it.
- On the reading levels, use the graph to answer the question.
- With a scale, each line on the graph stands for 2 or 5: work out where the number goes.
For parents and teachers
A bar graph is a picture of counting. Building one from a tally shows that the height of each bar is just its count, and reading one asks the questions graphs are for: most, fewest, how many more. The scale levels are where children often slip, by counting lines instead of reading their values, so ask your child what each line is worth before they start.
