Progressions grow by constant differences or constant ratios. This course finds their terms and sums and relates arithmetic and geometric means.

The course follows the NCERT Class 11 Mathematics chapter Sequences and Series and has 3 lessons. Each lesson explains the ideas with worked examples and ends with practice questions and full answers. The numbers in every example and question are our own, so the lessons can be used alongside the textbook exercises.

  1. Sequences and Arithmetic Progressions, Sequences and series, the AP general term and sum, and arithmetic means.
  2. Geometric Progressions and Special Sums, GP general term, finite and infinite sums, geometric mean, AM-GM, and sums of squares and cubes.
  3. Sequences and Series: Mixed Practice, Twelve original questions on APs, GPs and special series, with answers.

By the end you will be able to:

  • Find terms and sums of APs.
  • Find terms and finite and infinite sums of GPs.
  • Insert arithmetic and geometric means and use AM ≥ GM.
  • Sum series using formulas for Σk, Σk² and Σk³.
