Admitting i with i² = −1 lets every quadratic be solved. This course does complex arithmetic, draws numbers on the Argand plane, and writes them in polar form.
The course follows the NCERT Class 11 Mathematics chapter Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations and has 3 lessons. Each lesson explains the ideas with worked examples and ends with practice questions and full answers. The numbers in every example and question are our own, so the lessons can be used alongside the textbook exercises.
- Complex Numbers and Their Algebra, The imaginary unit, arithmetic of complex numbers, powers of i, conjugate, modulus and division.
- Argand Plane, Polar Form and Quadratics, Complex numbers as points, modulus and argument, polar form, and quadratic equations with negative discriminant.
- Complex Numbers: Mixed Practice, Twelve original questions on complex numbers and quadratic equations, with answers.
By the end you will be able to:
- Add, multiply and divide complex numbers.
- Find the conjugate, modulus and argument.
- Write complex numbers in polar form.
- Solve quadratics with negative discriminant.
