This course takes the equation skills you learnt with integers and uses them with all real numbers. You start with the four transposing rules on equations with fractions and decimals, then solve two-step equations, including some whose answers are roots such as 3√2. Next you gather the variable from both sides and open brackets. You learn to clear every fraction at once by multiplying by the LCM, and to solve one fraction equal to another by cross multiplication. The course ends by turning word problems about numbers, money, rectangles and ages into equations and solving them.

Lessons
-
Simple equations with fractions and decimals
The four transposing rules, used on one-step equations whose numbers are fractions and decimals, with a check of every answer.
-
Two-step equations
Undo adding and taking away first, then multiplying and dividing. Two-step equations with fractions and decimals, and equations whose answers are roots.
-
The variable on both sides
Bring the x terms to one side and the numbers to the other, open brackets first, and solve equations with fractions and decimals on both sides.
-
Clearing fractions and cross multiplication
Multiply every term by the LCM of the bottoms to clear all fractions at once, and solve one fraction equal to another by cross multiplication.
-
Word problems on equations
Five steps to turn words into an equation, used on missing numbers, parts of a number, money, rectangles and ages.
