Why the NCERT book mat­ters

For stu­dents of CBSE and many other boards that fol­low NCERT syl­labuses, the text­book is the ref­er­ence point for what is taught and exam­ined. It mat­ters for three rea­sons.

  • It defines the syl­labus. Top­ics, def­i­n­i­tions and meth­ods in board papers fol­low the text­book closely.
  • It builds con­cepts in order. Each chap­ter starts from ideas you already know and adds one step at a time.
  • It is the base for fur­ther study. Alge­bra, geom­e­try, trigonom­e­try and sta­tis­tics from Class 10 return in Classes 11 and 12 and in entrance exam­i­na­tions.

How to use the text­book well

Hav­ing the PDF is the easy part. Using it prop­erly is what improves marks. Fol­low this method for every chap­ter.

  1. Read the chap­ter intro­duc­tion first. It tells you why the topic mat­ters and what you will learn.
  2. Work through the solved exam­ples with a pen. Cover the solu­tion, try the step your­self, then check.
  3. Attempt every exer­cise ques­tion. Do not skip the ones that look easy; they build speed and accu­racy.
  4. Keep an error note­book. Write down every mis­take, why it hap­pened, and the cor­rect method.
  5. Revisit the optional and extra ques­tions. They stretch your under­stand­ing once the basics are secure.
  6. Sum­marise each chap­ter on one page. List the key for­mu­las, def­i­n­i­tions and typ­i­cal ques­tion types.
  7. Revise in mixed sets. Once a few chap­ters are done, prac­tise ques­tions from sev­eral of them together.

  • Save the files in one folder named by chap­ter so you can find them quickly.
  • Always work on paper, even when read­ing on a phone or lap­top.
  • Turn off noti­fi­ca­tions while study­ing from a device.
  • If pos­si­ble, print the exer­cise pages you use most often.
  • Down­load from sources you trust, and avoid sites that ask you to install soft­ware.
